“Anthony Descotte opened the scoring with a well-taken left-footed finish from the left side of the box into the bottom right corner, converting at a difficult angle after Gibson Yah's through ball picked him out. The goal came immediately after Heracles had threatened through a Luka Kulenovic header from an Hrustic cross.”

Outstanding performance

FC Volendam arrived at the Polman Stadion sitting in a precarious mid-table position and delivered a disciplined, counter-punching performance to claim all three points against a Heracles side that dominated the ball but lacked the cutting edge to show for it. Heracles controlled 56 percent of possession and generated 14 shots, yet their two big chances both went begging, and it was Volendam who proved clinical when it mattered most. The match turned irrevocably in a stunning seven-minute spell between the 55th and 62nd minutes: Descotte broke through from a tight angle on the left to make it 1-0, and just minutes after a flurry of Volendam substitutions, the freshly-introduced Robert Mühren added a second with a composed finish from the right side of the box, assisted by fellow substitute Brandley Kuwas within seconds of coming on. Heracles, who had done much of the pressing and created the better early opportunities — including a Luka Kulenovic header from an Ajdin Hrustic cross that was blocked — found themselves undone by Volendam's dangerous attack count of 55 versus their own 40, a reminder that territory and possession without end product is a hollow advantage.
