“Anthony Descotte put FC Volendam ahead with barely two minutes on the clock, giving the home side the perfect platform and silencing any early nerves in front of their own supporters.”
Pivotal“Against the run of play, Telstar drew level through Danny Bakker on the stroke of half-time, with Jeff Hardeveld providing the assist to cancel out Descotte's early opener and completely alter the complexion of the match heading into the break.”
Pivotal“Ronald Koeman Jr. won a penalty deep into stoppage time after a foul, collected a yellow card in the process, and Danny Bakker stepped up to convert and complete a stunning turnaround for Telstar, who had no right to win this match on the statistics.”

Outstanding performance
Telstar•DefenderFC Volendam dominated this match in almost every statistical category — 17 shots to Telstar's seven, eight on target to two, and 67 to 42 in overall dominance — yet left with nothing to show for it, undone by clinical finishing and a stoppage-time penalty. Anthony Descotte gave the home side a dream start after just two minutes, and Volendam pressed for more, with Descotte himself testing the keeper again in the 32nd minute, but they repeatedly failed to convert their superiority into goals. Telstar rode their luck, made seven saves across the match, and found an equaliser completely against the run of play through Danny Bakker just before the interval, with Jeff Hardeveld's assist giving them an undeserved foothold at the break. The second half was a procession of substitutions that disrupted the game's rhythm, and just as Volendam seemed to be grinding toward the win their play deserved, Ronald Koeman Jr. won a penalty in the 89th minute that Bakker converted to complete a daylight robbery and a win that will do little to flatter Volendam's efforts but everything for Telstar's survival hopes.
