Cambridge United delivered a ruthless attacking display to demolish Gillingham 5-0 in a result that could prove pivotal in the League Two title race. The U's set the tone early with Dominic Ball's second-minute opener, then systematically dismantled their opponents with clinical finishing from L. Appéré and Sullay Kaikai, before an unfortunate Lenni Rae Cirino own goal compounded Gillingham's misery. The visitors' discipline completely collapsed as they resorted to desperate challenges, with multiple bookings highlighting their inability to cope with Cambridge's relentless pressure. Shayne Francis Lavery's late strike capped off a comprehensive victory that sees Cambridge make a significant statement in their promotion push, while Gillingham will need to quickly regroup from this chastening experience.
