Darmstadt looked to have seized control early through a blistering two-minute double from Patric Pfeiffer and Fraser Hornby, but Elversberg fought back with goals from Tom Zimmerschied and Maximilian Rohr to level things before the break. The match turned on its head in the 44th minute when Pfeiffer — who had scored the opener — was dismissed for a professional foul as the last man, and Elversberg capitalised immediately through Lukas Petkov to lead 3-2 at the interval. Darmstadt, reduced to ten men, refused to fold and Hornby completed his brace six minutes into the second half to restore parity, after which both sides largely cancelled each other out despite Elversberg carrying the greater threat — 42 dangerous attacks to Darmstadt's 31 and 17 shots to 13. The point does little to ease either club's anxieties: Darmstadt remain embroiled in a relegation battle, and while Elversberg's greater territorial control was evident in the statistics, their inability to press home the numerical advantage will be a source of frustration for their coaching staff.
