Outstanding performance

Red Star did the bulk of their damage in a breathtaking nine-minute stretch either side of half-time, recovering from an early Guingamp opener to score three times before the interval. Louis Mafouta gave Guingamp the lead at the Stade Bauer after just six minutes, but Red Star responded emphatically — Damien Durand levelled on 34 minutes, Jovany Ikanga turned the game on its head almost immediately, and Ryad Hachem added a third on 43 to put the hosts firmly in control. The statistics tell a story of two halves in every sense: Guingamp dominated possession 64-36 and created more in terms of raw volume, but Red Star were ruthlessly clinical, converting three of their eight shots while racking up 21 tackles to contain the visitors. Guingamp did halve the deficit through a Mafouta penalty on 71 minutes and pressed hard thereafter, but Red Star held firm to claim a result that strengthens their mid-table position and maintains their strong recent form, while leaving Guingamp to rue a catastrophic ten-minute collapse that undid their early promise.
