Outstanding performance

Rodez were the dominant side for large stretches at Stade Francis-Le Basser, generating 12 shots to Laval's five and registering 67 dangerous attacks, yet their wastefulness in front of goal proved their undoing as they spurned their one big chance of the night. Laval, though second-best for much of the contest, showed admirable defensive organisation, making 19 tackles and limiting their visitors to a single shot on target despite Rodez controlling possession through the middle third. The match was largely shaped by a wave of double substitutions around the 65th and 77th minutes as both managers looked to change the game, but the fresh legs failed to produce the breakthrough either side needed. The point does little for either team's ambitions — Laval remain frustratingly inconsistent at home while Rodez will rue their failure to convert a night of territorial superiority into maximum reward.
