“Both sides exchanged yellow cards within the same minute — Luis Garcia booked for dissent and Jon Aramburu carded for a foul — setting a combative early tone to the fixture.”
“Four minutes into the second half, Alexis Sánchez, on as a half-time substitute, broke the deadlock to give Sevilla the lead — the only goal of the match and ultimately the difference between the two sides.”
Pivotal“Alexis Sánchez, the match-winner, picked up a yellow card for a foul — a reminder that his influence came with an edge, but he remained on the pitch to help Sevilla protect the lead.”
“José Ángel Carmona was booked for a foul in the closing stages as Sevilla committed bodies to protect their slender lead, with Real Sociedad unable to conjure a single shot on target despite their pressure.”

Outstanding performance
Sevilla•DefenderSevilla made the most of very little, grinding out a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad through sheer defensive organisation and a moment of individual quality from a substitute. Alexis Sánchez, introduced at the interval alongside Orri Óskarsson, took just four minutes of the second half to find the net and hand Sevilla all three points. The statistics tell a curious story — Real Sociedad dominated possession at 58% and completed more passes, yet managed zero shots on target from their six attempts, while Sevilla's goalkeeper was never troubled. In contrast, Sevilla launched 19 shots and generated 39 dangerous attacks from a base of just 42% possession, pressing with urgency and intent while their opponents passed without real penetration. For Sevilla, this result continues a positive run of form and strengthens their La Liga standing, while Real Sociedad will be left to reflect on a toothless attacking display that offered their keeper four saves to make — all from Sevilla's threat — and nothing of their own.
