Portland raced into a commanding lead through Vincent Janssen's early penalty and a Drake Callender own goal, and looked to be cruising at 3-0 after Janssen's second on 26 minutes. But Minnesota United, despite trailing by three, refused to fold - Marcus Caldeira's double either side of half-time and Anthony Markanich's strike hauled them level at 3-3 by the 50th minute, exposing a Portland defense that conceded 61 dangerous attacks and 17 shots to Minnesota's 11. Janssen's hat-trick goal and a late Kristoffer Velde strike after a double substitution swing seemed to have settled it at 5-3, only for substitute Tomas Chancalay to set up a nervy finish with a 90th-minute goal. Portland's clinical edge in front of goal - 5 goals from just 11 shots compared to Minnesota's 4 from 17 - proved the difference in a match defined by end-to-end chaos rather than defensive control.

Portland host Minnesota in a pivotal Western Conference clash with just one point separating the two sides in the playoff hunt. The Timbers look to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss, while the Loons aim to extend their unbeaten momentum on the road.
