Outstanding performance

SJ Earthquakes blitzed San Diego with three goals inside the first 35 minutes, built on quickfire strikes from Niko Tsakiris and Preston Judd before Ousseni Bouda added a third off the bench. Tsakiris was the architect throughout, opening the scoring himself before turning provider for Judd and Bouda, while also denying San Diego a way back into the game with a penalty save at 0-2. San Diego's response through Anders Dreyer just before the break and a stoppage-time Cédric Bakambu penalty made the scoreline respectable, but they were undone by their own indiscipline, with CJ dos Santos and Max Floriani both dismissed for second yellow cards. Despite dominating possession and dangerous attacks, San Diego's profligacy in front of goal - three big chances missed - proved costly against a ruthless Earthquakes side that made the most of every opportunity.
How entertaining was this match?
San Diego host San Jose in a young but spicy MLS rivalry, with both sides scrapping for Western Conference playoff positioning. San Diego sit ninth and desperate to snap a rough patch, while the Earthquakes arrive mired in a lengthy winless league run despite still occupying a wild-card spot.
