“Alex Telles broke the deadlock just before half-time to give Botafogo a deserved lead. The goal came after a spell of pressure that saw Victor Alexander da Silva and Cristian Medina test the Fluminense defence with attempts in the 33rd minute.”
Pivotal“Ignácio equalised four minutes after being booked, heading home Kevin Serna's corner to make it 1-1. The goal came after Lucas Villalba had been denied twice in quick succession by the Botafogo goalkeeper, with Fluminense finally converting from the resulting corner.”
Pivotal“Marçal was shown a second yellow card in added time for dissent, leaving Fluminense to see out the final moments with ten men following a chaotic closing spell that saw three players booked in the final minutes.”

Outstanding performance
Fluminense•MidfielderBotafogo had Fluminense on the ropes at half-time after Alex Telles converted to make it 1-0, but their lead lasted barely 14 minutes into the second half before Ignácio punished them from a corner. Despite controlling only 41% of possession, Botafogo were actually the more threatening side in attack, firing 20 shots to Fluminense's 14 and creating the match's one genuine big chance — which they ultimately squandered. Fluminense, dominant with the ball and completing 471 passes, were far more economical defensively, recording 27 tackles compared to Botafogo's 12, and it was their set-piece alertness rather than open-play dominance that earned them parity. The closing stages descended into ill-tempered chaos, with five yellow cards issued after the 68th minute and Marçal dismissed on a second booking in added time — a draw that will frustrate Botafogo more given their superior shot volume, while Fluminense will consider it a battled point earned in a fixture they never fully controlled.
