Outstanding performance
Necaxa•AttackerNecaxa secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Mazatlán through superior set-piece execution and dominant possession football. Javier Ruiz emerged as the standout performer, scoring the opener after earning the free kick himself and later providing the assist for Alexis Peña's decisive header. Despite Fábio Gomes equalizing just before halftime with a well-taken strike from the right side of the box, Necaxa's 60% possession and 20 shots to 9 reflected their territorial dominance. The home side's ability to capitalize on set pieces proved the difference, with both goals coming from free kick situations, while they squandered several big chances that could have made the victory more comfortable.
