River Plate
Outstanding performance
Vélez Sarsfield•GoalkeeperVélez Sarsfield secured a crucial 1-0 victory over River Plate at home, with Manuel Lanzini's early strike from outside the box proving to be the decisive moment. The hosts took control from the opening minutes, capitalizing on River's sluggish start when Lanzini unleashed a powerful right-footed effort that found the net just six minutes in. River Plate struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout, with their best opportunity coming through Fausto Vera's effort from distance that failed to trouble the keeper. The match became increasingly scrappy as River desperately searched for an equalizer, evidenced by five yellow cards and multiple tactical substitutions, but Vélez's disciplined defensive performance ensured they held onto their early advantage for a vital three points.
