River Plate dominated the underlying numbers throughout, controlling 62% possession and doubling Banfield's chance creation with six big chances to one, and their clinical edge showed early as Driussi and Almada's penalty put them 2-0 up inside 41 minutes. But Banfield refused to fold, and Bruno Sepúlveda turned the second half into his personal show, scoring twice within a five-minute spell either side of Correa's third for River before adding a dramatic 84th-minute header to set up a tense finish. River's superior quality told in the end - 19 shots to 14 and 82% pass accuracy against Banfield's 72% underlined the gulf in control - but their profligacy in front of goal (four big chances missed) allowed the home side back into a game that should have been settled long before the final whistle. For River, the win keeps them firmly in the title conversation, while Banfield's spirited response, despite the defeat, offers something to build on even in a losing effort.
