Outstanding performance

Shanghai Shenhua needed just eleven minutes to effectively settle this one, punishing sloppy Chongqing defending at a corner for the opener before Wu Xi curled in a second from distance. From there Shenhua sat in and absorbed pressure, and the numbers tell the story of that siege: Chongqing dominated possession (60%) and dangerous attacks (43 to 25) but couldn't turn control into goals until deep into the second half. Yang Haoyu's header on the counter in the 86th minute put the game out of reach at 3-0 before Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui's late consolation gave the home crowd something to cheer, but it was far too little too late. For Shenhua this was a statement smash-and-grab away from home, while Chongqing will be frustrated that 91% pass accuracy and eight corners produced so little reward against a side that scored from three of its handful of chances.
