Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht served up a breathless six-goal draw at Het Kasteel that had everything — sucker-punch goals, immediate responses, and a last-gasp header to deny the visitors all three points. Utrecht struck first through Matisse Didden's 16th-minute header from a corner, only for Sparta to draw level on the stroke of half-time through Marvin Young's own header. Remarkably, Utrecht restored their advantage within sixty seconds of the restart when Artem Stepanov pounced from close range, setting the tone for a frantic second half. Sparta, who dominated possession at 56% and created four big chances to Utrecht's three, refused to fold: substitute Milan Zonneveld crashed in a leveller from outside the box just five minutes after coming on, before Adrian Blake — another substitute — put Utrecht 3-2 up in the 76th minute. It was Nick Verschuren who had the final say, heading home in the 90th minute to rescue a point that Sparta's dangerous attacking numbers arguably deserved. Despite Utrecht's slightly higher shot count of 16 to Sparta's 14, it was the home side who generated 49 dangerous attacks against just 26, suggesting they were the more threatening team across the ninety minutes.
