Outstanding performance

Necaxa stunned the visitors with an early lead through Owen González, but América's response was immediate and relentless, with Henry Martín inserting himself into every key moment of the first half. América's control of the game showed in the underlying numbers - 42 dangerous attacks to Necaxa's 24, and nine shots on target compared to five - but it was Martín's individual output, two goals either side of Julián Carranza's penalty, that kept dragging them level before halftime. Miguel Borja's second-half strike put daylight between the sides for good, and Martín's third penalty in stoppage time put a firm gloss on the scoreline. For Necaxa, wasteful finishing told the story: four big chances missed against a much sharper América attack, while the champions' pedigree and star power carried them through a match that could easily have slipped away from them in the first 45 minutes.
How entertaining was this match?
Bottom-of-the-table Necaxa look to snap a miserable run under new boss Juan Reynoso against a Club América side that arrives without several key names on international duty. Despite the absences, América remain heavy favorites and are firmly in the title chase near the top of the Apertura table.
