Outstanding performance

Atlas controlled this game from start to finish, racking up 64% possession, 16 shots to Atlante's 8, and nearly double the dangerous attacks, yet they only have a single point to show for it. Luis Esteves put them ahead inside seven minutes and Atlas looked comfortable, especially after Julio Palacios' penalty save on Jhojan Esmaides preserved their lead just before halftime. But Atlante came out of the dressing room with intent and Martín Sarrafiore leveled just two minutes into the second half, exploiting a lapse in an Atlas backline that had otherwise been solid. From there the match became scrappy, with five second-half substitutions apiece and a flurry of late yellow cards as both sides pushed for a winner that never came. For Atlas, sitting at the top of the table, this is a missed opportunity to press their advantage in the title race; for Atlante, stealing a point on the road against the league's best attack is a result they'll happily take.
