Birmingham City looked to have snatched a dramatic win when Riley McGree turned into his own net on 59 minutes, capping a whirlwind spell either side of the hour mark that saw the lead change hands twice inside 14 minutes. Middlesbrough had gone ahead through Max Arfsten's finish right at the end of the first half, only for Liam Millar to restore parity for Birmingham shortly after the restart. Adilson Malanda's injury-time equalizer, following a wave of late substitutions and pressure from set pieces, denied Birmingham what would have been a statement win. Middlesbrough dominated the underlying numbers - more possession, superior pass accuracy, and double the tackles - but Birmingham's efficiency in front of goal and set-piece threat kept them level throughout a match that swung on individual moments rather than sustained control.
How entertaining was this match?
Birmingham City chase their first home win of the season as they host high-flying Middlesbrough at St Andrew's. Boro arrive full of confidence off the back of a five-match unbeaten league run, but injury concerns in defence could test their resolve against a Birmingham side building momentum after victory at Derby.
