Outstanding performance

Blackburn made their limited first-half control count, with Afolayan striking on the stroke of half-time after Todd Cantwell and Romain Esse had both gone close. Millwall responded almost immediately after the break, Lyndon Dykes converting a penalty just six minutes into the second half to level things up, but Rovers reasserted themselves within seven minutes as Afolayan struck again, this time teed up by substitute Tom Atcheson. Millwall actually edged the underlying numbers — 55% possession, 439 passes, and three big chances created against Blackburn's two — but wasteful finishing (two big chances missed) and defensive fragility undid them, while Rovers made do with fewer chances but sharper execution, doubling their shot count advantage 18 to 15. Andri Gudjohnsen's stoppage-time third, arriving moments after coming on as a substitute, sealed a result that keeps Blackburn firmly in the promotion picture while Millwall's inefficiency in front of goal will be the frustrating takeaway from a game they competed hard in.
