PivotalOutstanding performance

Real Sociedad rode their punches to snatch a dramatic win in Valencia, twice being pegged back before Ander Barrenetxea's stoppage-time corner-kick finish settled it. Luka Sucic's early strike gave the visitors control before Aaron Mayol dragged Valencia level, and Carlos Soler's penalty looked to have won it for Sociedad until a cruel own goal from Luken Beitia denied them at 2-2. The match swung wildly in the final 20 minutes, with six of the nine key moments arriving after the break, and Valencia's Orri Óskarsson compounding the misery for the hosts with a second yellow in the closing seconds. Despite Valencia edging possession (54%) and passing accuracy, Real Sociedad were the more clinical side in the moments that mattered, converting three of their limited openings while the hosts' extra pressure - 21 shots to Sociedad's 21 but fewer big chances created - went largely unrewarded.
How entertaining was this match?
Valencia snapped a five-match winless run with a gritty 0-1 victory at Alavés, and now host a struggling Real Sociedad side desperate to arrest their own back-to-back defeats. With Valencia rooted at 19th and Sociedad battered by heavy losses to Atletico and Bournemouth, both sides need Mestalla to be a turning point.
