Leverkusen looked to be cruising after goals from Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick inside the opening nine minutes gave them a two-goal cushion, but Mainz refused to fold. Anthony Caci dragged the hosts level with two sharp finishes either side of the break, the second assisted by Nadiem Amiri, setting up a genuinely open contest. Leverkusen's superior quality told in the end though, as Jarell Quansah's VAR-confirmed header and a thumping Moussa Diaby strike from outside the box put the visitors two goals clear again by the 65th minute. Despite being outshot 23-16 and conceding more dangerous attacks, Leverkusen's clinical edge - converting four of their limited chances - proved decisive, while Mainz's late consolation through substitute Benedict Hollerbach in stoppage time only added gloss to a result that keeps Leverkusen's title credentials intact and leaves Mainz still searching for consistency near the relegation zone.
