Outstanding performance
Santa Clara•AttackerSanta Clara controlled this from the opening minutes, taking the lead through Brenner inside four minutes and never looking back, finishing with a commanding 59% possession and 16 shots to Rio Ave's 5. The floodgates truly opened after the break, with Tiago Ribeiro and Vinícius Lopes scoring within five minutes of the restart to make it 3-0 before halftime substitutions had even settled in, and Fernando added a fourth in stoppage time to complete the rout. Rio Ave's double substitution at the break did nothing to stem the tide, and their attacking numbers - just 2 shots on target and zero big chances created - tell the story of a side that was outclassed in every department. For Santa Clara, sitting top of the table, this was a statement of intent in their title push, while Rio Ave will need to regroup quickly after such a lopsided defeat.
