Outstanding performance

Mozambique were comfortable long before the floodgates opened, dominating possession at 65% and doubling Sudan's passing output, but it was the second half where they turned control into carnage. Witi's opener just after Candinho's injury-enforced introduction set the tone, before half-time substitute Chamito announced himself with a header seconds into the restart. Guima and Chamito again then turned a routine win into a statement 4-0 lead inside 62 minutes, exploiting a Sudan defense that made 29 tackles but couldn't stop the bleeding. Sudan's late penalty consolation through Yasin Hamed came too late to matter, but this result will boost Mozambique's qualifying position while Sudan face questions after a heavy defeat built on defensive fragility rather than lack of effort.

Mozambique host Sudan in a pivotal early Group J showdown, with both sides unbeaten through the opening round. The hosts will look to Geny Catamo's form after his equalizer against Senegal, while Sudan arrive full of confidence as early group leaders following a narrow win over Ethiopia.
