Outstanding performance

Egypt made their superior quality tell from the first half, with Mostafa Zico's top-corner finish in the 36th minute setting the tone before Marmoush doubled the lead just after the break. South Sudan, who managed only two shots on target across the match and completed less than half of Egypt's pass total, simply had no answer as the visitors racked up 5 big chances created to their opponents' none. Ibrahim Adel's fine strike from outside the box on the counter and a late Marmoush-Abdelkarim double in the final ten minutes turned a comfortable win into a rout, with Egypt scoring three times in the last 15 minutes alone. For South Sudan this is a chastening result that will do little for morale in their qualifying campaign, while Egypt's ruthless depth off the bench, with substitutes Adel and Abdelkarim both scoring, will give their coach plenty of encouragement heading into the business end of qualification.
How entertaining was this match?
Egypt travel to Juba as heavy favorites for this AFCON qualifier, but the big talking point is Mohamed Salah's absence — rested by his own federation due to Juba Stadium's artificial pitch. South Sudan, winless and searching for their first points, will hope to make the most of their star man's absence.
