Outstanding performance

A flat, largely forgettable affair was temporarily brought to life by a frantic passage of play early in the second half. Hannover arrived at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion holding the majority of the ball — 59 per cent possession to Bochum's 41 — and looking the more composed side, yet it was their triple substitution at the break that ultimately blew the game open. Maik Nawrocki punished a Bochum side still finding its feet after those changes, heading Hannover in front on 50 minutes, only for fellow half-time substitute Farid Alfa-Ruprecht to restore parity almost immediately with a goal of his own at the 55-minute mark. Despite Hannover creating the game's only big chance and generally controlling territory through their superior passing accuracy, Bochum showed resilience to hold on, though a succession of yellow cards — five in total — gave the closing stages an edgy and increasingly scrappy complexion. The draw leaves both clubs in mid-table mediocrity with little to separate them as the 2. Bundesliga season edges towards its conclusion.
