Toluca looked in complete control after Federico Viñas and Joao Paulo put them 2-0 up inside 43 minutes, exploiting Santos Laguna's high line with clinical set-piece work and quick combinations through Ernesto Vega. But Ezequiel Bullaude's stoppage-time strike before the break, followed almost immediately by Everardo del Villar's red card, turned the tie on its head and left Santos to survive the second half a man down. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Santos out-fought and out-created Toluca after the break, racking up 52 dangerous attacks to Toluca's 33 for the match and converting late substitute impact through Kevin Palacios and Fran Villalba to complete the turnaround. Toluca's wastefulness told in the end - three big chances missed compared to Santos's zero - as the visitors snatched a stunning 3-2 win in the final minute.
How entertaining was this match?
Table-topping Toluca ride a red-hot streak into a home clash against a Santos Laguna side mired in last place and winless in five. With the Diablos Rojos boasting a stacked attack and Santos struggling for any consistency, the Bombonera looks set for a one-sided affair.
