Outstanding performance

Hannover 96 produced a masterclass in defensive resilience and clinical finishing, scoring twice from just a handful of shots while being thoroughly outplayed on the ball. Bochum controlled 57% of possession and piled on 28 shots to Hannover's 10, but wastefulness in front of goal and a resolute Hannover defense - backed by nine saves - kept them at arm's length until Tom Meyer's 77th-minute strike gave the visitors hope. Stefan Teitur Thordarson and Marcel Hartel were the difference-makers, converting two of Hannover's rare forays forward either side of halftime, while Bochum's Charlie Patino was denied twice in a frantic spell before Hartel's decisive second. The result keeps Hannover's push up the table alive while Bochum, despite the dominant underlying numbers, will rue their profligacy in a match they should have controlled more comprehensively on the scoreboard too.
