Did it deliver?
As a contest it did not deliver, because the tie was settled inside 17 minutes and Villarreal never threatened a response. As a spectacle of one-sided attacking football, with six goals and 12 shots on target, it was ruthless and memorable.
Paris Saint Germain were 4-0 up after 17 minutes, with João Neves, Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu and Fabián Ruiz all scoring while Villarreal were still working out how to cope with the pressure. The first goal came from a corner after a spell of Doué shots, and Maghnes Akliouche then set up two of the next three as PSG attacked the space between Villarreal's lines. The numbers show the gap: 71% possession, 91% pass accuracy, 12 shots on target to 2, and only 4 fouls to Villarreal's 19. Villarreal's 14 shots produced little, they created no big chances, and they lost their discipline, collecting yellow cards for Santi Comesaña, Santiago Mouriño, Sergi Cardona, Quentin Ndjantou and Alberto Moleiro. Ruiz added a fifth from a set piece on 50′ and David Boly came off the bench to score the sixth. The result is a heavy blow to Villarreal's European campaign and a statement of intent from PSG.

Perfect-record PSG visit a Villarreal side sitting 19th with just three points, and both teams have injury problems. Luis Enrique's men carry momentum, but Villarreal have scored in every European match this season and will back themselves at La Cerámica. Expect an open game with a lot riding on the result for the hosts.
He sets PSG's tempo from midfield and will be central to breaking Villarreal's press and creating chances while the attack is short of options.
With Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia out, his dribbling and directness in the front line become even more important.
A creative left-footed playmaker who can unlock PSG with his link-up play and set pieces, and Villarreal's best route to continuing their scoring run.
A clinical striker who could lead the line if Moreno is unavailable and make the most of any chances Villarreal create.
